Rise in Global Phone Sales Within A Decade

Background Report

On Jan 25, 2019, South China Morning Post released an article named "Why your smartphone is causing you ‘text neck’ syndrome", talking about how the increase of using smart phones affect our lifestyle and health condition.

To prove the trend of mobile phones becoming essential to our daily lives, the author Pablo Robles generated an infographic presenting the increase in global mobile sales from 2007 to 2017.

Area For Improvement

The infographic above is simple and straightforwad, indicating the rise in sales with the increasing area of semicircles every five years. Nonetheless, the speed of growing sales is not clearly presented, which makes it difficult for the audience to see if the sales are growing faster.

Possible Suggestion

To better compare the growing speed in the first half decade and the second half, a line graph can be employed.

From the slope of the lines in the new infographic, we can tell that the increasing rate stays similar for 2007-2012 and 2012-2017, with the latter slighly higher than the former.
